Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afrozza Khanam said on August 1, 2026, that the government is working to ensure affordable, safe and transparent Hajj management.
She spoke as chief guest at the closing ceremony of the three-day National Hajj and Umrah Fair-2026, organized by the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka.
Khanam said the government, acting on the instructions of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman, had broken up a syndicate that previously collected extra money from pilgrims through abnormal air ticket pricing.
She said the government would work to increase the reasonable commission paid to Hajj agencies.
Khanam said Hajj costs had been reduced by 36,830 taka in the government's first five months and that talks with the Saudi government were continuing, with airfares possibly falling further.
In a separate statement, State Minister for Power and Energy Anindya Islam Amit said the government had no plan to raise gas prices and that recent reports of an increase were baseless.
Amit said such reports could create anxiety and confusion and urged the public to rely on official announcements from the ministry.
