On 3 August, the US Embassy in Dhaka issued a message telling people planning travel to the United States that they must have sufficient financial capacity to bear their own expenses.
The embassy said these expenses include the costs of medical emergencies.
It also said travelers should be able to pay their own costs if the trip is disrupted.
The message warned that abusing benefits funded by US taxpayers could have permanent consequences.
The embassy said such consequences could make a person ineligible to travel to, study in, or work in the United States in the future.
The warning specifically concerned the misuse of benefits operated with US taxpayer money, the embassy said.
