A container vessel became stuck against a retaining wall after hitting red buoy No. 2 while entering the Chattogram port channel on 3 August.
The vessel was identified as MV CNC Uranus.
Port officials said a technical steering fault caused the ship to lose control before the collision.
No casualties were reported.
A recovery operation was launched to move the vessel and maintain navigation in the channel.
Kandari-4 and Kandari-11 tugboats were sent to the site.
The Navy, Coast Guard and other relevant agencies joined the operation, port authorities said.
Officials said repairs to the vessel's fault were continuing as of 8pm.
One account placed the incident at about 2:15pm, while another described it only as occurring in the afternoon.
Port officials said the authority's own pilots bring container ships from the outer anchorage through the channel to the jetties.
Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim said further information would be provided as the situation developed.
