Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit the flood-affected Chattogram upazilas of Hatazari, Fatikchhari and Banshkhali on August 9, his press secretary Saleh Shibli said.
Shibli said the visit to Chattogram had been finalized.
The planned programme includes distribution of relief among affected residents and the handover of newly built homes to families whose homes were lost in the flooding.
In West Banshkhali, the programme is expected to include a brief gathering, relief distribution and handover of 100 reconstructed homes built with government assistance.
Preparations were under way to establish a helicopter landing site for the prime minister’s arrival.
Chattogram Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sharif Uddin said the district administration was preparing for the visit.
He said officials had not yet been formally informed of the detailed itinerary and would complete preparations once it was provided.
Chattogram South BNP convenor Idris Mia said party officials had been called to the prime minister’s Gulshan office in connection with the visit and were preparing to welcome him.
