Bangladesh's educational institutions will remain closed for 12 days in August 2026, combining nine weekly holidays and three public holidays, according to the holiday calendar published by the Ministry of Education.
The calendar says the closures apply to all educational institutions across the country.
The three public holidays are 5 August (July Mass Uprising Day), 12 August (Akheri Chahar Somba) and 26 August (Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi).
Across August and September together, institutions will be closed for 23 days, with teachers and students taking part in class activities on 38 days.
In September alone, institutions are scheduled to remain closed for 11 days and to hold class activities on 19 days.
The ministry said additional or optional holidays may be declared by relevant authorities if required by natural disasters, adverse weather or other special circumstances.
