Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said police must not become the enforcement arm of any political party, individual or group.
He spoke at the completion ceremony for the first phase of the 27th BCS Police batch at Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi, on 2 August.
Ahmed said police should be friends and servants of the public and apply the law impartially.
He called on officers to uphold professionalism, honesty and accountability in protecting lives and property and safeguarding human rights.
The minister said public trust was central to policing in a democratic state.
He urged officers to work above political influence, bias and group interests while remaining loyal to the constitution and the law.
Ahmed also called for technological skills to counter cybercrime, digital fraud, online forgery and other technology-driven offences.
The ceremony marked the end of a six-month basic training programme for the batch’s first phase.
Fifty-eight trainees who began the programme on 1 February 2026 were entering operational service, the academy event heard.
Ahmed received the ceremonial salute and presented awards to trainees recognised in different categories.
Trainee Assistant Superintendent Dr Md Nurul Huda Bhuiyan received the Best Probationer and Best in Field Activities awards, while Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam received the Best Academic award and ABM Mamun was named Best Shooter.
