The Road Safety Foundation said its review recorded 1,849 road crashes in Dhaka from 2020 through July 2026, with 1,384 people killed and 2,488 injured.
The group said 1,034 of those killed were men, 219 were women and 131 were children.
Its figures show crashes rising from 124 in 2020 to 407 in 2025.
The highest yearly death toll in the review was 289 people killed in 296 crashes in 2023.
Although the number of crashes increased in 2024 and 2025, the group said fatalities declined somewhat in those two years while injuries reached 511 in 2025.
For the first seven months of 2026, it counted 233 crashes, 137 deaths and 356 injuries.
Pedestrians made up the largest share of deaths, with 592 fatalities, or 42.77 percent, followed by 536 motorcyclists, or 38.72 percent.
Drivers and passengers of buses, rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws and other vehicles accounted for the remaining 256 deaths, the group said.
Heavy goods vehicles, including trucks, covered vans, pickups, tank lorries and waste trucks, were involved in 33.25 percent of the crashes in the dataset, followed by motorcycles at 26 percent and buses at 21.75 percent.
The group said 519 people, or 37.5 percent of those killed, died in crashes occurring at night, the highest total for any time of day.
It identified Jatrabari, Demra, Mohammadpur, Kuril Bishwaroad and Airport Road as crash-prone locations in the capital.
Executive Director Saidur Rahman called for company-based bus services through route rationalisation and coordinated work by transport regulators, city corporations and traffic police.
