Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir opened the Free Eye Camp 2026 in Thakurgaon on 2 August.
He attended as chief guest in his capacity as local government, rural development and cooperatives minister and BNP secretary general.
The Thakurgaon Diabetic Association organised the camp as a joint Bangladesh-Nepal initiative.
Fakhrul said he expected the existing friendship between Bangladesh and Nepal to become stronger and more enduring.
He said cooperation and cordial relations between the countries could advance public welfare and development.
Fakhrul said many poor people in border and remote areas cannot afford specialised eye care.
He expressed hope that the camp would benefit patients and that similar health services would be extended to other parts of the country.
The camp, held under the theme “Vision for All, Care for Every Eye,” provided free eye examinations, medical consultations and diagnostic services.
Organisers said the programme was intended to identify eye conditions and provide advice and treatment services, with a focus on poor and underserved people.
Nepal embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Pratik Karki, NNJS chair Professor Dr Chet Raj Pant and Biratnagar Eye Hospital chair Padma Narayan Chaudhary were among those present.
Dr Abu Md Khairul Kabir, president of the Thakurgaon Diabetic Association, chaired the event.
Doctors, social workers, local representatives and patients attended the day-long camp, where hundreds of people received free services.
