Bangladesh's Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said the government has hired a law firm in Dubai to pursue cancellation of the bail granted to former police chief Benazir Ahmed.
He made the statement after a meeting with police officers in Rajshahi on August 2.
The minister said Benazir Ahmed received conditional bail from a Dubai court, and the government is trying to collect certified copies of the order.
He said he had spoken with the Home Secretary, who had contacted the UAE ambassador, and that the law firm was instructed to pursue the bail cancellation.
Benazir Ahmed was released from a Dubai prison on July 30 after legal proceedings, according to the minister.
He was arrested in Dubai in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, with assistance from Dubai police and Interpol, and Dubai police informed Bangladesh authorities in a letter on June 12.
The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed multiple cases against him over alleged illegal acquisition of assets and money laundering.
Under the bail conditions, his passport remains with the court and he cannot leave the UAE without permission.
