A case has been filed at Bogura Sadar police station against Gazi Salauddin Tanvir over an alleged Facebook post concerning Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

H S Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel, president of Bogura Sadar উপজেলা BNP, filed the complaint.

In the complaint, Rubel alleged that a post from Tanvir’s Facebook account contained defamatory and provocative comments about the prime minister.

He said he saw the post while at the Bogura district BNP office on 29 July.

The complaint further alleged that the content spread on social media and was later deleted.

It also alleged that the post sought to mislead the public and create tension.

The officer-in-charge of Bogura Sadar police station said police would investigate the allegation and take legal action as appropriate.

Tanvir was described as having been temporarily relieved of his position as joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party’s central committee.

The evidence does not establish whether the alleged post was authored by Tanvir or whether any offence occurred.
