Activists of the university branches of Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir clashed at Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur on 3 August after a dispute over an exhibition banner.
The confrontation followed a Shibir-organised July-themed exhibition on campus.
Chhatra Dal objected to images on the display, while Shibir said the banner concerned people it described as victims of judicial killing.
Chhatra Dal said the display included images of people it regarded as war criminals and demanded their removal.
Both accounts describe an argument that escalated into physical confrontation and reciprocal chases.
They also describe brick-throwing and chairs being thrown during the unrest.
Representatives of both organisations said some of their activists were injured, but no verified number or medical details were provided.
Each organisation accused the other of initiating the violence, and both alleged that the opposing side brought in outsiders.
The reported starting time differs: one account places it at about 7:30pm and another at about 9pm.
Vice-Chancellor M Shawkat Ali, Proctor Ferdous রহমান and student advisers went to the scene, and a meeting with leaders of the two groups began at the vice-chancellor’s office.
The meeting had not produced a resolution when renewed chases were reported later that night.
Proctor Ferdous রহমান said the university would examine video footage, identify those involved and take legal and administrative action.
Police said later that the campus environment was calm.
