Suspicious unattended objects beneath the Mirpur-10 and Farmgate metro stations prompted a temporary security scare in Dhaka on Saturday morning.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police said examinations found no explosive or hazardous material in either object.

Police, senior officers and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit's bomb disposal team attended the locations and strengthened security measures, police said.

At Mirpur-10, the bomb disposal team responded after receiving information that a suspicious bag might contain a bomb, police said.

An X-ray showed a tin-like object inside the bag, police said.

Following standard procedures, the team used a frangible disruptor to make the bag safe before opening it, police said.

Police said the bag contained a tin of chewing tobacco and paan, with no explosive or dangerous item found.

At Farmgate, the team inspected an abandoned sack by hand after securing the area, police said.

That inspection also found no explosive or hazardous material, police said.

The police urged residents not to spread rumours and to promptly alert law enforcement if they notice suspicious objects or circumstances.
