Highway police constable Parvez Mia, 30, died when a truck loaded with rice husk overturned onto a police pickup van in the Daria Kandi bus stand area of Kuliarchar upazila, Kishoreganj.
The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on the Bhairab-Kishoreganj regional road while the pickup crew was heading to the site of an earlier crash involving a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw.
The pickup had stopped at the roadside so the driver could air up a low tire, and Parvez Mia was inside the vehicle at the time.
Police said a fast-moving truck from behind lost control while trying to overtake a CNG auto-rickshaw and overturned onto the parked pickup.
Fire service personnel, police and local residents jointly recovered the constable's body after a lengthy rescue effort.
Bhairab Highway Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Sumon Kumar Chowdhury said Parvez Mia died at the scene and his body was sent to the morgue at Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj.
Chowdhury added that legal proceedings in connection with the incident are underway.
The deceased was posted at Bhairab Highway Police Station and his home was in Habiganj Sadar upazila; traffic in the area was disrupted for some time before police restored movement.
