Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain inspected Vedarganj উপজেলা Health Complex in Shariatpur on Saturday.

He visited wards, spoke with patients and heard their concerns.

The minister also inspected the hospital kitchen, toilets, storeroom and operating theatre to assess service standards.

At a meeting with hospital staff, Hossain called for regular attendance and performance of duties.

He said staff who remain irregular could face measures including termination or suspension.

Hossain said failure to fulfil the government’s commitments after the July uprising would harm everyone, and warned that no one would be able to live in the country if the government failed.

He also visited two private clinics and diagnostic facilities located in front of the health complex.

The minister said inspectors did not find required licences and documents at the facilities, and alleged that normal delivery services were unavailable.

Modern Diagnostic Centre and Clinic was sealed during the visit.

Vedarganj Popular Diagnostic and Hospital was ordered to close for seven days and submit the required documents within that period.

Hossain said the facility could be allowed to reopen if it produced the documents on time, and otherwise could be sealed.

The minister directed that two doctors receive show-cause notices over allegations that they treated patients at private clinics during government working hours.

The Directorate General of Health Services director general, the Shariatpur civil surgeon and other health officials were present during the inspection.
