State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj spoke at a discussion meeting in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on 2 August.
The National Democratic Movement, or NDM, organised the meeting under the theme of private universities’ courage, struggle and sacrifice in the July movement.
Hajjaj described the July uprising as a chapter marked by courage, unity and sacrifice, particularly among young people.
He said students from public and private universities had played important roles in the movement.
He said private university students’ active participation had broadened and strengthened the movement.
Hajjaj said no single person or institution led the uprising.
He said political forces, social organisations, civil society and students at all levels participated in it.
The minister urged students to remain responsible to the country, society and democracy while pursuing their education.
He said the government was seeking to reinforce values-based education, civic responsibility and social awareness from the primary level.
Reserved-seat MP Bithika Binte Hossain and barrister Zoharat Adib Chowdhury were special guests at the event.
Private-university vice-chancellors, teachers and students also attended.
