Students seeking admission to class XI in the upcoming academic year will again be enrolled on the basis of their results in the SSC and equivalent examinations, according to Syed Akteruzzaman, chairman of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
Akteruzzaman, who also chairs the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, said on Monday afternoon that the committee had sent a draft policy to the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the education ministry retaining the previous year's result-based rules.
He said the admission process will be run through central online applications and placement based on merit and students' preference order, with no major change from the previous cycle.
SSC and equivalent results are scheduled to be published on 10 August; publication was originally set for 20 July but was postponed because the education boards had not completed preparations.
While higher secondary colleges and madrasas will admit students on the basis of results, church-run institutions such as Notre Dame College and Holy Cross College will hold admission tests in line with a court directive issued several years ago.
Akteruzzaman said there are more than 2.6 million class XI seats in higher secondary colleges and madrasas nationwide, while more than 1.857 million students took this year's SSC and equivalent examinations.
The chairman said a large number of class XI seats are expected to remain vacant, as has been the case in previous years.
