At least 18 students were reported injured in a week of clashes involving four residential halls at Bangladesh Agricultural University.
Students of Shahid Shamsul Haque Hall and Ashraful Haque Hall had previously clashed on July 23 and 24 after a personal dispute between two students.
Thirteen students were reported injured in those earlier incidents.
Dr Aminul Motin said five students received initial treatment after a separate late-night clash between first-year students of Maulana Bhashani Hall and Hossain Shahid Suhrawardy Hall.
Students attributed that confrontation to an online argument that they said developed into a dispute over regional dominance.
Another confrontation involving Shahid Shamsul Haque Hall and Ashraful Haque Hall unfolded around Fossil intersection late Sunday, with brick throwing and vandalism reported.
An Ashraful Haque Hall student alleged that a group of 40 to 50 Shahid Shamsul Haque Hall students attacked students having tea and vandalised a shop.
Rupayan Bhuiyan of Shahid Shamsul Haque Hall said an exchange of insults led to an altercation and alleged that Ashraful Haque Hall students later damaged his hall's gate and logo.
Students reported loud bangs and smoke during the later incident, but no official confirmation of explosives was provided.
Shahid Shamsul Haque Hall provost Md Abdul Awal said the hall administration had submitted a report to the university administration.
Ashraful Haque Hall provost Mohammad Alam Mia said an investigation committee was being formed.
Vice-Chancellor A K Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan said each incident would be investigated and those found involved would face administrative action.
