The University of Dhaka unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal held a tree-planting programme at the campus Mall area on 3 August.
Organizers described the event as a remembrance initiative for people they called martyrs of the July-August uprising.
Dhaka South City Corporation supported the programme, which was inaugurated by its administrator, Abdus Salam.
University Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Administration Mohammad Almojaddedi Al-Felchani, student wing president Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahos and general secretary Nahiduzzaman Shipon attended.
Participants planted saplings in different parts of the Mall area after the programme.
Sahos said the city corporation supplied 500 saplings and that the group had been conducting tree-planting activities since July.
Salam said broad tree planting was needed to protect the environmental balance and improve urban liveability amid pollution.
He urged public participation in a five-year target of planting 250 million trees that he attributed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Al-Felchani said planned planting and proper care of saplings could help address the effects of climate change and global warming while making the campus greener.
Salam said the 2024 uprising had restored democracy and called on University of Dhaka students to play a responsible role in sustaining democratic progress.
