State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid said Bangladesh is communicating with the United Arab Emirates over efforts to bring former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed back to the country.
She made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Dhaka on Sunday.
Obaid said the two governments had exchanged documents, and that UAE authorities had requested specific information from Bangladesh's Home and Foreign Ministries.
She said Bangladesh had supplied the requested information and that the process was continuing.
Obaid expressed hope that Ahmed, whom she described as an accused person, could be returned soon for legal proceedings.
She said any steps by the UAE would be taken under that country's laws, and that Bangladesh's government and Home Ministry would discuss possible next steps with Emirati authorities.
Police Headquarters spokesperson AHM Shahadat Hossain said the headquarters had no information confirming claims that Ahmed had been granted bail in the UAE.
In June, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed told parliament that Benazir Ahmed had been arrested and said efforts would be made to return him quickly.
