The Sylhet Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board seized about a sack of Higher Secondary Certificate examination answer scripts from a tea stall near the main gate of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology late on 1 August.
Examination Controller Professor Bilkis Yasmin carried out the seizure at about 11:30pm, the board said.
The lecturer taken from the location was identified as Iqbal Hossain Sohan of Sylhet Metrocity Women’s College.
Witnesses said Sohan had been at the stall with former classmates and friends, and alleged that two companions took answer scripts from the sack and marked them.
A separate witness account alleged that four people had evaluated HSC scripts at the same stall the previous night.
Sohan told Professor Yasmin that no answer scripts had been marked there and that he had only been matching code numbers because he was in a hurry.
Ireen Linza, who was identified as being present, said she did not take part in evaluating any scripts and was there as Sohan’s friend.
The education board chairman later went to the location with police and accompanied Sohan to Jalalabad police station.
Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge Shamsul Habib said the board filed a general diary over the incident.
Habib said Sohan was in the education board’s custody and that legal and administrative steps were under consideration.
It remains unclear whether any answer scripts were marked by unauthorised people, how the scripts reached the stall, and what action the board will ultimately take.
