Rajshahi University authorities have formed a five-member committee to investigate allegations that some faculty members were secretly involved with the banned Awami League and former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
The committee was established by an office order signed by acting registrar Professor Iftikharul Alam Masud on Wednesday night, and the public university office later issued a notice.
The order cited recent information from various media and sources indicating that 404 teachers from 22 public universities are allegedly in secret contact with Sheikh Hasina and the banned Awami League, including some teachers at Rajshahi University.
The committee has been asked to investigate which teachers at the university are involved and to submit its report as soon as possible.
The order warned that if such cases are proven, disciplinary action including compulsory dismissal, removal from service, or dismissal could be taken.
The committee is chaired by Professor Rezaul Karim of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with members including professors from Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Zoology, and Agronomy and Agricultural Extension.
The registrar said the committee is led by a syndicate member and a meeting has been called for the next day.
