Rajshahi University authorities formed a five-member fact-finding committee on 5 August 2026 to look into allegations that teachers had secretly kept in contact with ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the banned Awami League.
The committee was constituted by an office order signed by acting registrar Iftikharul Alam Masud; the order said information from various sources indicated that 404 teachers at 22 public universities were allegedly maintaining such contact, with some Rajshahi University names on the list.
Professor Rezaul Karim of the biochemistry and molecular biology department heads the panel, and professor Gias Uddin Ahmed of agronomy is its member-secretary.
Masud said the names that surfaced had been forwarded to the committee, that some might be pseudonyms or incorrect and people outside the list might also be involved, and that the committee was expected to submit its report within seven working days.
He added that any teacher linked to the allegations would first be allowed to defend themselves and explain why they acted before further steps were taken.
At Begum Rokeya University, at least 10 people were injured, five of them seriously, in a Monday clash between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir over an exhibition of photographs of leaders convicted of war crimes.
The university administration had applied for a Section 144 order to control the situation, and on 5 August leaders and activists of the two organisations appeared together at July Uprising Day events.
Vice-chancellor Shaukat Ali said the joint presence proved that a harmonious campus environment could be maintained, while leaders of the two groups said differences should not turn into conflict.
