Former state minister Tanjim Ahmed Sohel Taj made comments directed at former prime minister Sheikh Hasina in a post on his verified Facebook page on 5 August.
The post was made on the second anniversary of the mass uprising, as described by Sohel Taj.
Sohel Taj said he had heard that Hasina was speaking about returning to Bangladesh.
He alleged that she was denying responsibility for her actions while misleading Awami League members and the public with unrealistic expectations of a return.
He accused Hasina of wrongdoing including killings, enforced disappearances, corruption, undermining democracy and moving money abroad.
Those are allegations made by Sohel Taj in the post, and the evidence set does not independently establish them.
He said that, instead of acknowledging mistakes or showing remorse, Hasina was using what he called a false conspiracy narrative.
Sohel Taj argued that former leaders who lose power rarely return successfully.
To support that view, he cited Getúlio Vargas of Brazil, Byzantine emperor Justinian II and Mexico’s Antonio López de Santa Anna as historical cases of leaders returning to power.
He asserted that those figures had been removed in military coups, unlike Hasina, whom he said had been removed through a popular uprising, and predicted that she would not return to power.
