Bangladesh's acting president, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, invited ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina to return home, saying, "We are waiting; come to the country — if you come, God willing, we will meet on the street."
Ahmed spoke on Wednesday (5 August) at a July Mass Uprising Day event at the China-Bangladesh Friendship International Conference Center in Agargaon, Dhaka.
He described the administration as "your elected government," asked the public to correct it if it made mistakes, and said his side could not become the Awami League and did not want to.
Ahmed alleged that the Awami League showed no shame over "so much injustice, murder, disappearances, money laundering, killing, torture, Aynaghar," and repeated statements that Hasina would return in December.
He said he took part in the Liberation War at age 27 and, at 82, would "do another one" for Bangladesh.
Ahmed said he had given blood for the country and was wounded in 1971, not to see this kind of Bangladesh.
He vowed to make the people's rule and democracy permanent.
