Bangladesh's embassy in Tokyo observed July Mass Uprising Day 2026 on Wednesday 5 August, beginning with a minute of silence in memory of the uprising's martyrs before a discussion meeting and a prayer for the dead and wounded.
The Tokyo programme included readings of messages from the president, prime minister, foreign minister and state minister for foreign affairs.
Ambassador to Japan Md. Daoud Ali said the families of martyrs and those injured in the uprising need proper state rehabilitation and long-term welfare benefits comparable to those given to freedom fighters.
Daoud Ali described the goal as a democratic, non-discriminatory and just society and called on citizens to support the government's welfare initiatives while offering constructive advice.
He also praised expatriate remittances, said foreign-exchange reserves rose from $18 billion to $36 billion, cited a 'Probashi Card' initiative to ease expatriates' services, and urged remittances through official banking channels.
Bangladesh's embassy in Paris held its observance on 4 August, a day early because consular passport services for expatriates were limited on 5 August.
In Paris, Ambassador Khondker M. Talha said every martyr family is owed a debt and urged everyone to work for development, democratic values and a prosperous Bangladesh.
The Paris programme featured Quran recitation, a minute of silence and readings of messages from the acting president, prime minister, foreign minister and state minister; embassy staff and expatriate community leaders attended both gatherings.
