Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu said institutions based in Rajshahi would remain in the city.
He specifically said the headquarters of Northern Electricity Supply Company, or NESCO, would not be moved elsewhere.
Minu spoke on 5 August at a programme at Rajshahi District Shilpakala Academy marking July Mass Uprising Day.
He said claims or demands by contractors would not determine the location of Rajshahi-based institutions.
The minister described NESCO as a Rajshahi institution and said it would stay there.
His comments followed remarks attributed to State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam about moving NESCO’s headquarters to Bogura.
Minu said he had opposed an initiative in 1992 to transfer the western railway headquarters from Rajshahi to Chattogram.
He said that headquarters ultimately remained in Rajshahi.
Minu said Rajshahi’s interests would take priority in his position on the issue.
