At the Dhaka event, an uproar began among audience members during a documentary screening in front of Acting President Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, and security personnel moved to the front of the stage.
Home Minister Salah Uddin Ahmed appealed for calm and called on NCP member secretary Akhtar Hossain to speak; Hossain said the documentary contained inconsistencies, including the absence of the 3 August events, and that the matter would be raised with the government.
Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan expressed regret that the documentary had hurt viewers and said its inconsistencies, including those concerning 3 August, would be examined and corrected.
In Lakshmipur, an altercation and shouting match broke out during a discussion and reception at the Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium after July fighter Sarwar Hossain made critical remarks about Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Aani, prompting objections from Chhatra Dal activists.
Police officers intervened and restored order; the Lakshmipur programme was suspended for a while before being resumed.
Lakshmipur Superintendent of Police Md Abu Tareq said there had been an exchange of words but no major unpleasant incident and that the situation was quickly brought under control.
The acting president attended the Dhaka gathering as chief guest, while District Administrator S M Mehdi Hasan chaired the Lakshmipur event, which was attended by police officials, political party activists, martyr families and July fighters.
