Mohammad-Baqer Kharazi, a senior Shiite cleric, alleged in a video released on August 3 that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had threatened to resign 28 times.
Kharazi also attributed to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei a warning that any further resignation offer by Pezeshkian would be approved.
Mehdi Tabatabaei, the president’s deputy for media and information, rejected Kharazi’s account as baseless and clearly false.
Ali-Asghar Shafian, an adviser to the president, described the remarks as fictional and said Kharazi had neither met nor been in contact with Khamenei.
Shafian said people angered by an Iran-US memorandum were spreading the claims.
Kharazi further alleged that Khamenei planned to replace Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohammad-Baqer Zolghadr with military adviser Mohsen Rezaei.
He also alleged that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had been cautioned against threatening to leave diplomatic talks and instructed not to interfere in negotiations over the memorandum.
The president’s side said the Iran-US memorandum, signed on June 17, proceeded after approval from more than 75 percent of National Security Council members and with Khamenei’s consent.
The evidence does not include a primary statement from Khamenei, an official resignation letter, or independent confirmation of Kharazi’s allegations.
