The National Citizen Party (NCP) has temporarily relieved Gazi Salahuddin Tanvir, a joint member secretary of its central committee, from organizational duties after he posted a Facebook message about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The party also issued him a show-cause notice requiring a written defense, evidence and explanation to its central disciplinary committee within two working days of receiving the notice.
According to the party's notice, convener Nahid Islam and member secretary Akhtar Hossain ordered the suspension because the post violated organizational discipline and damaged the party's image on social media.
In the post, Tanvir alleged that leaders of Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal were involved in attacks and obstruction of NCP processions in three Sylhet division districts, including Habiganj.
He later removed the post amid criticism, while screenshots of it circulated online.
NCP published the suspension letter on its verified Facebook page, and Tanvir separately expressed regret for his remarks in his own Facebook post.
This was the second time the party took such action: in April 2025 NCP relieved Tanvir after allegations of interference in deputy commissioner appointments and involvement in commission-related business in NCTB textbook printing, and he was reinstated on 16 April 2026 after the allegations were not proven.
The latest suspension came about three and a half months after his return to the party.
