The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education said 14,384 recommended assistant primary school teachers will join duty on 29 October 2026.
The decision was announced after an emergency virtual meeting on teacher recruitment held at the ministry on 1 August.
Primary and Mass Education Secretary Md Sakhawat Hossain said the government was working seriously on the joining of about 14,000 recommended assistant teachers and that investigation and procedural delays had slowed the process.
After the recommended teachers join, they will receive professional training following their postings.
A written examination for assistant teacher recruitment was held on 9 January in 61 districts excluding the three hill districts, with 69,265 successful candidates selected for oral tests before 14,384 were finally recommended.
Health checks and certificate verification for the recommended candidates were completed between 22 February and 1 March, after which the government ordered police verification; the appointment process has not yet been finalised.
Recommended candidates who previously held sit-ins demanding appointment and posting announced a fresh movement, with a continuous sit-in scheduled to begin at 11am on 2 August in front of the National Museum in Shahbag.
The candidates said 175 days had passed since the final results were published without appointment letters, and that a demand for a joining notification by 29 July was not met.
