Gazipur held a series of programmes on 5 August to mark July Mass Uprising Day.
The day began with wreaths placed at the July Martyrs' Memorial in Gazipur at 9am.
Those attending included city corporation administrator and metropolitan BNP convener Md Shawkat Hossain Sarkar, Police Commissioner Md Israil Howlader and District Commissioner Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan.
Senior police officers, district officials and representatives of political parties also took part in the memorial tribute.
A reception for families of people officially described as July martyrs and for July fighters was later held at Bangataj Auditorium.
District Commissioner and District Magistrate Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan chaired a discussion on the significance of the day.
Speakers called for preserving the history of July and conveying their account of the sacrifices made during the movement to younger generations.
Special prayers were arranged at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other places of worship for those described as July martyrs, the wellbeing of July fighters and national progress.
Universities and colleges, including National University, Bangladesh Open University, Gazipur Agricultural University, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, and the Islamic University of Technology, arranged separate activities.
Public hospitals, correctional and welfare facilities were included in plans for communal meals, while photo and documentary exhibitions were arranged at public locations.
The programme also included decorations in public areas, free daytime entry for children at public and private entertainment venues, and illumination of the July memorial from 7pm to 11pm.
