Passengers and transport workers held a protest march and brief rally in Gulistan on August 4, demanding action against theft, snatching and harassment.
The gathering was held near the Ahad Police Box at about 11am.
Participants also objected to a labour committee announced for the Gulistan bus terminal by the Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation.
Speakers alleged that the proposed committee excluded genuine transport workers.
They also alleged that some people included in it were connected to drug dealing, snatching and a so-called malom party.
The speakers said a committee containing disputed individuals could worsen passenger harassment and property crime at the terminal.
Jahangir Shikdar, joint general secretary of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, said terminal committee leaders are responsible for passenger safety, protection of belongings and overall transport management.
He said such committees also have an important role in preventing vehicle arson or other incidents during political unrest.
Shikdar said that if allegations of theft, snatching or arson against a committee are proven, action should be taken quickly.
He supported dissolving a committee if allegations are proven, removing those accused from the terminal and forming a new committee with transport workers.
