Dhaka Metropolitan Police introduced traffic restrictions and diversions from 5am on Wednesday, 5 August, around Shahbagh, Suhrawardy Udyan, Khejurbagan and Manik Mia Avenue.

The measures were announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam on 4 August.

DMP said traffic in the affected areas would remain limited and diversions and U-turn controls would apply until further notice.

The advisory was issued in connection with commemorative activities at Shahbagh and cultural programmes at Suhrawardy Udyan and Manik Mia Avenue.

Vehicles travelling from Farmgate toward Shahbagh were directed to turn left at the Hotel InterContinental crossing and use Hare Road and Minto Road.

Passengers travelling toward Shahbagh from the Golapshah Mazar crossing were directed via High Court and Matsya Bhaban crossings to Kakrail Mosque crossing.

For journeys from Sayedabad toward Shahbagh, DMP listed routes via New Market, Azimpur, Chankharpul and Bakshibazar, as well as an alternative through Bata, Katabon, Hatirpool, Palashi and Nilkhet.

Northbound traffic from Mirpur Road heading to Farmgate or Sonargaon was directed to turn left at Ganabhaban crossing, use Lake Road and Urojahaj crossing, then turn right at Bijoy Sarani.

DMP directed vehicles from Dhanmondi 27 and Asad Gate toward Farmgate through Ganabhaban crossing, Lake Road, Urojahaj crossing and Bijoy Sarani.

Traffic from the elevated expressway or Indira Road toward Dhanmondi was directed through Khejurbagan, Urojahaj crossing, Lake Road and Asad Gate.

DMP asked elevated-expressway users to take the FDC-Hatirjheel ramp instead of the Farmgate exit ramp during the events.
