Police in Muksudpur, Gopalganj, are holding a madrasa teacher for preliminary questioning over allegations that he beat a seven-year-old student.

The alleged incident occurred at Kadampur Hafizia Madrasa on the night of July 31.

The child, a student in the madrasa’s Qaida section, was accused of stealing a calculator that had gone missing on July 30.

The child’s family took him to Muksudpur উপজেলা Health Complex for treatment after the alleged assault.

The child’s father said his son had studied at the madrasa for about a year and had not previously faced such an allegation.

He alleged that the theft accusation was false and called for punishment of the teacher.

The teacher’s brother disputed the allegation, saying the child had not been beaten and was hurt after falling.

Muksudpur police chief Abdullah Al Mamun said officers had kept the teacher in custody for preliminary questioning.

He said police would take necessary legal action if the student’s family submitted a complaint.

The evidence does not establish whether a formal complaint has been filed, whether medical staff documented the injuries, or whether any charge has been brought.
