Clashes between BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami supporters broke out from Friday evening into the night in the Dinar Dokan area of Ward 6 in Sirajpur union, Companyganj upazila, Noakhali.
At least 10 activists from both sides were injured, including Jubo Dal leader Anwar Hossain, 32; Ripon Mia, 27; Faruk, 27; and Sirajpur Ward 8 Islami Chhatra Shibir president Osman, 24, and secretary Rifad, 25.
The local BNP office was vandalized during the clashes.
Local and police sources said the violence grew out of an earlier dispute in which Mujahid, son of union Jamaat amir Abul Hashem, beat a Chhatra Dal worker at Sirajpur PL Academy field.
The same sources said that after Chhatra Dal workers beat a Shibir worker, Jamaat and Shibir activists vandalized the BNP office around 11 p.m.
Companyganj police station officer-in-charge Md. Nurul Hakim said police reached the scene and brought the situation under control.
Hakim said no complaint has been received so far and legal action will be taken if one is filed.
