Sylhet education board authorities seized about a sack of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) answer scripts from a tea stall near the main gate of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology late on August 1, 2026.

The board's examination controller, Professor Bilkis Yasmin, led the seizure, and the teacher named in the incident was later taken with police to Jalalabad police station.

Witnesses said Iqbal Hossain Sohan, a lecturer at Sylhet Metrocity Women's College, sat with friends at the shop and that answer scripts were being marked there that night and the previous night.

Sohan told the controller that the group was only matching code numbers, not marking scripts, because of haste.

Irene Linza, a former vice-president of the Shabiprabi Chhatra League unit who was with the group, said she took no part in the evaluation and was present only as a friend.

Jalalabad police station officer-in-charge Shamsul Habib said the board filed a general diary and the teacher was placed in education board custody for further legal and administrative action.

Separately, Gopalganj Power Supply (Ojadipaco) announced that electricity on the 11 kV Mohammad Para feeder would remain off from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on August 2 while tree branches near lines were trimmed, and it asked customers to cooperate.
