An 11-party alliance began a public rally on the morning of 5 August 2026 at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka.
The programme was organised to mark the second anniversary of the July mass uprising.
The rally began at around 10:30am with Quran recitation, even as rain was falling.
Thousands of activists and supporters took part despite the weather, and many more were joining in groups.
Large numbers of participants gathered at the mosque's south gate and surrounding areas.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and an opposition leader, was scheduled to address the rally as chief guest.
