Authorities in Gopalganj district have deployed five platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel to maintain law and order through August 15, officials said.
District Administrator Md. Arif-Uz-Zaman confirmed the deployment, saying the BGB will continue its duties until August 15.
The security measures are tied to the August 5 July mass uprising day commemorations and the August 15 national mourning day.
Additional police, eight platoons of Armed Police Battalion (APBn), and five platoons of Range Reserve Force (RRF) have been deployed at key roads, intersections, government buildings, and public gathering points.
Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah said Gopalganj is a specially important district, so security arrangements were made in advance, with increased intelligence surveillance and round-the-clock patrols.
The SP said any attempt to deteriorate the law and order situation will be dealt with strictly, and the administration is fully alert to protect people's lives and property.
The DC said various programs for the August 5 observance have been planned and steps taken to ensure they are completed peacefully.
BGB patrols began Tuesday afternoon in important areas of the town, according to the DC's confirmation.
