Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) has raised the VAT-inclusive price of 22-carat gold by Tk2,216 per bhori to Tk223,074.
The revised rates took effect from 10am on 31 July and remain in force until a further BAJUS decision.
BAJUS said it adjusted the prices after the local market price of pure gold increased.
A bhori is 11.664 grams under the association’s quoted rates.
The VAT-inclusive price for 21-carat gold is Tk213,043 per bhori.
The corresponding rates are Tk182,950 for 18-carat gold and Tk149,474 for traditional-method gold.
BAJUS had previously set the 22-carat price at Tk220,857 per bhori after a Tk2,216 reduction on 28 July.
BAJUS said jewellery-making charges depend on the design and are separate from the quoted gold rate.
The association also said VAT should not be collected separately from customers because it is included in the sale price of gold and silver jewellery.
Silver prices were unchanged, with VAT-inclusive 22-carat silver priced at Tk4,607 per bhori.
The listed per-bhori rates for 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional-method silver are Tk4,374, Tk3,791 and Tk2,858 respectively.
