Green chilli imports from India resumed through Hili land port in Dinajpur on 3 August after a halt of more than eight months.
The first truck carrying the product entered Bangladesh at about 3:45pm.
The previous green chilli import through the port was recorded on 20 November 2025.
Raj Enterprise and Mahadi Enterprise, both based in Bogura, brought in 21 tonnes in three trucks.
The consignment originated in Katihar, India.
Hili plant quarantine centre deputy director Anwar Hossain said the government had granted import permission on 2 August as domestic prices rose.
Hossain said that, by 4pm on 3 August, 74 importers had been authorised to import a combined 27,110 tonnes.
He said imported chillies would be sampled and certified before release from the port.
Importer Shahabul Islam said adverse weather and storms had damaged chilli fields in several areas, disrupting production.
Islam said domestic prices had exceeded Tk300 because supply had not met demand, and that prices in India were lower.
Importers said volumes could rise after the first day as licensing and letter-of-credit procedures are completed.
Importers and Hossain said additional supply could reduce prices, though no confirmed post-import retail price was provided.
