A Bangladeshi man was seriously injured when a landmine exploded inside Myanmar near the Balukhali border in Ukhiya on Thursday morning.
The injured man was identified as Badi Alam, a resident of Jhumchhara in Palongkhali union.
His age was recorded inconsistently as 32 and 42.
The blast occurred at about 10am, on the Myanmar side of the border near the Naf River.
BGB said he had gone to fish in the river near the border.
A BGB commander said Badi Alam crossed into Myanmar with two or three other local people before the explosion.
He sustained severe injuries to his right leg and the right side of his body.
One BGB account said the blast severed his right heel.
People who were with him took him to the MSF hospital in Kutupalong, from where he was referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for advanced care.
BGB said higher authorities had been informed and urged people living near the border to move with maximum caution.
The commander of 64 BGB Ukhiya Battalion said preliminary information indicated the mine had been planted by the Arakan Army.
