On August 6, the Bogura Metropolitan 11-party alliance staged a protest and sit-in against the gas crisis, severe load-shedding, electricity price increases, excessive billing, and rising prices of essential goods.
The protest march began at Bogura Law College around 11 a.m. and ended at the Deputy Commissioner's office, where a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister was handed to Deputy Commissioner Taufiqur Rahman.
Jamaat-e-Islami central working council member and Bogura metropolitan amir Maulana Abidur Rahman Sohail, the chief guest, said the government must explain the sudden gas and electricity crisis.
Sohail said the gas supply disruption over several days had caused extreme suffering to ordinary people and had affected business, trade, and industrial production.
He also said prices of essential goods, especially vegetables, had risen abnormally and demanded an investigation into whether illegal hoarding, syndicates, or an artificial crisis were behind the increase.
Sohail further said that during the electricity crisis, electricity prices had been raised and customers were being charged excessive bills, and he demanded an investigation and a rational explanation of the price increase.
Other speakers from the National Citizens Party, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, LDP, and the Sramik Kalyan Federation, among others, also addressed the assembly.
