Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur imposed a temporary ban on outsiders entering its campus on 4 August 2026.
The ban followed clashes between the student organizations Bangladesh Chhatra Dal and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
University sources said the two groups had announced separate protest marches and rallies in and around the campus after noon, creating renewed tension.
The administration put up notices on campus restricting the entry of guests, visitors and outsiders.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali said the administration does not support any violence and urged students to remain patient and tolerant while preserving a peaceful campus environment.
He said the movement of outsiders had been restricted for now and that an application had been made to the Rangpur Metropolitan Police commissioner to impose section 144 in areas adjoining the campus to avoid major clashes.
The police commissioner said the situation was being monitored closely, that conditions for imposing section 144 had not yet arisen, and that a decision would be made after considering the overall situation.
