On 4 August, a seven-member delegation from China's Fudan University led by Vice President Chen Zhimin held a courtesy meeting at Dhaka University with Vice-Chancellor Professor A B M Obaidul Islam in his office.
The delegation included Fudan professors Ping Zhang, Yin Zhiguang and Zheng Yu, while Dhaka University was represented by Center for China Studies Director Professor Md. Rakibul Haque and Confucius Institute Director Dr. Yong Hui.
The two sides discussed the possibility of launching a dual-degree programme in artificial intelligence.
They emphasised greater contact among teachers, researchers and students and the exchange of knowledge and research findings, and agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding soon.
Obaidul Islam expressed interest in expanding academic and research cooperation with Fudan and in creating more higher education opportunities for young people.
He said Bangladesh and China have long historical ties, that Bangladeshi students go to China for higher education every year, and that education and research would further strengthen bilateral relations.
The vice-chancellor also sought the guests' cooperation in creating more scholarships for Dhaka University students at Fudan and in expanding joint academic programmes.
Separately on the same morning, police said the body of an unidentified woman, about 60 years old and described as a vagrant, was recovered from the footpath in front of Salimullah Muslim Hall in the Dhaka University area and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
