Immigration police detained Humayun Talukdar at Benapole International Checkpost as he sought to travel to India.
Benapole Immigration Police officer-in-charge Saifur রহমান said Talukdar submitted his passport at the checkpoint and was detained after his name appeared on a server stop-list.
Police said Talukdar confirmed his identity during initial questioning.
Police identified him as the former chairman of Gorai Union Parishad in Mirzapur, Tangail, and president of Mirzapur উপজেলা Krishak League.
Police said there is a case against Talukdar under the Speedy Trial Act at Mirzapur police station.
Saifur রহমান said Talukdar was handed to Benapole Port police after the required legal process and was expected to be transferred to Mirzapur police.
