A Dhaka court ordered folk singer Mujib Pardeshi sent to jail on 4 August in a cheque-disahonour case.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah issued the order after police produced him before the court.
The case was filed in a Magura court in 2022 by Idris Ali Biswas over an alleged dishonoured cheque worth Tk 1 million.
On 15 March 2023, Magura’s second joint district and sessions judge, Muhammad Anwar Sadat, sentenced Pardeshi to one year of rigorous imprisonment.
The sentence also included a Tk 1 million fine, matching the value of the cheque.
A warrant was issued following the 2023 judgment.
Uttara West Police Station officers arrested Pardeshi on 3 August.
Prosecution sub-inspector Helal Uddin said police requested that he be kept in custody, and the court granted that request.
No lawyer appeared for Pardeshi at the hearing.
The complainant’s lawyer, Shafiqul Islam, opposed bail and alleged that Pardeshi had remained absconding despite knowing about the case.
Pardeshi, whose legal name is Mujibur Rahman Molla, is known as a folk singer, composer and music director.
