Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr Mahdi Amin said 45 business representatives from 25 leading US companies are expected to visit Bangladesh by the end of the following week.
He made the statement at a briefing on 1 August after the prime minister met Sergio Gor, the US special envoy for South and Central Asia, in Tejgaon.
Amin said the meeting covered bilateral trade, investment and cooperation in the energy sector.
He said the government had discussed measures it is taking to address problems in electricity and gas supply.
Amin said the government would continue policy support for private-sector development and was pursuing reforms intended to improve the investment environment and reduce obstacles to doing business.
He said coordination among government agencies was also being emphasized as part of those efforts.
The discussions also included providing 24-hour services at Bangladesh’s seaports and land ports to facilitate imports and exports, Amin said.
He said the service would be introduced soon after necessary preparations were completed.
Amin said the prime minister separately met several leading business figures on the same day.
That meeting addressed investment conditions, industrial production, energy supply, export expansion and business concerns, he said.
The identities of the proposed visiting companies and delegates, their schedule, and whether any investment or trade agreements are planned were not specified.
