A 16-year-old tenth-grade student died after an alleged assault during a dispute connected to a football match in Sherpur upazila of Bogura.
The deceased, Jamil Sheikh, was a student at Bogura Rural Development Academy Laboratory School.
Police said the incident occurred on the evening of 3 August at Sherua Adarsha High School field in Shahbandegi union.
Sherpur police inspector Zainul Abedin said an argument among players led to a dispute and Jamil tried to mediate between the sides.
Police alleged that Sakil Ahmed assaulted Jamil, who later collapsed and was taken to Sherpur উপজেলা Health Complex, where a doctor declared him dead.
Jamil's father filed a case naming Sakil and three others, with eight additional unidentified people listed as accused, police said.
Police said Sakil, 22, was arrested on the night of 3 August and operations to locate other accused were continuing.
The body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, police said.
