A brief fire occurred at the gate of former MP and former Bangladesh cricket captain Shakib Al Hasan’s home in Magura’s Keshab Mor area on the night of 5 August.
Police said an object described as explosive-like was thrown toward the upper part of the southern iron gate and a fire was started there.
The officer in charge of Magura Sadar police station said it was not yet possible to confirm whether the incident involved a petrol bomb.
The fire went out shortly afterwards.
Police visited the site after the incident and deployed personnel around the house.
Police said they were investigating the cause of the incident, the type of object used and the identities of those involved.
An unnamed relative alleged that several youths threw bricks at the property, broke window glass and tried to breach the main gate before attempting to start a fire inside.
The relative said Shakib Al Hasan and other family members were not at the house, while a maternal aunt was there as a caretaker.
The relative alleged that people from the surrounding area arrived, after which those involved withdrew.
No suspect, motive or final assessment of damage had been confirmed by police at the time of the investigation.
