Bangladesh's consulate general in Jeddah held a special event at 10 a.m. local time Wednesday in its conference hall to mark July Mass Uprising Day.
The program was chaired by Consul General Md. Sakhawat Hossain and moderated by Commercial Counselor Nahida Habiba, and it included, for the first time, leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP) alongside other diaspora organizations.
Messages from the president, prime minister, foreign minister, and minister of state for foreign affairs were read by ASM Sayem and Mohammad Mazharul Islam.
Speakers in Jeddah called on all communities to sustain the democratic renewal that followed the end of the 17-year government of Sheikh Hasina and stressed the importance of expatriate contributions to Bangladesh's economy and development.
In Malaysia, the Bangladesh High Commission observed the day with Quran recitation, readings of national messages, and screenings of two documentaries produced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, 'July's Letters' and 'Story of the Rooftop and the Sky.'
High Commissioner Monjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury called the uprising a watershed in establishing justice, democracy, and human dignity in national history and urged that the unprecedented national unity be preserved.
At the Malaysia event, speakers recalled the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement and paid tribute to martyrs including Abu Sayed, Mohammad Wasim Akram, and Mugdho.
Both programs ended with prayers for the souls of those killed in the July uprising, the quick recovery of the injured, and the peace, prosperity, and progress of Bangladesh.
